Welcome to POST REAL – an exhibition by Julie Anne Shea of Drawings – notations, analogies, sequences, animations and transformations. This artwork is also being shown at the Macleay Valley Community Art Gallery, Kinchela Street, Gladstone, NSW from July 1 until July 11.

Post Real refers to the transition from the traditional drawing practice of static display of single images to works created for online appreciation – a process begun by the experience of fully online art education which has inspired the exploration of animated charcoal drawing. The three main animations which are the centre of this exhibition are augmented by images from creative diary pages, the remnant drawings which remain from the drawing/erasing process, and the erased images which now only exist in a digital form.

The content of the animations reflects the natural and domestic environment of the artist as well as her imaginative and philosophical inclination. “Mum” describes the restrictions placed on the creative temperament by the practicalities of life. "Wheelloop' is a discarded section of "Mum" based on 'Marcelle Lender Dancing the Bolero in Chilperic' 1895-96 by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. “Moth-er” is a surrealistic journey through a cycle of rebirth of the environment, and “Blackdog” refers to fear of the unknown and misrepresented.
